When photographing weddings, one thing that always stands out to me is a uniquely gorgeous venue. It’s exciting when the setting perfectly complements the lovely couple. While Worcester County has a handful of great wedding venues, the Harding Allen Estate wedding venue remains one of my favorite hidden gems. Nestled in the quaint town of Barre, Massachusetts, the estate is the ideal wedding spot for a couple that wants something elegant yet timeless.
Finished in 1926, the estate was designed for Harding Allen and his wife, Carrie, by the Boston architects Blackwell, Clapp, and Whittemore. The Allens drew inspiration from everything. They constructed the exterior pergola after a romantic getaway to Greece. Theater tropes would perform on the ground where couples now exchange their vows. After the Allens passed away, the house changed hands before being purchased decades later by Steve Goldsmith, the great-nephew of Harding. Carmine and Grace Gugliotti now own the estate, but the legacy of the Allens lives on!
Ceremony spaces (indoor/outdoor) While couples can reserve the estate year-round, most weddings occur between the months of Late April and Early November. Stand beneath the pergola to trade your I-dos as your guests take in the splendor of the day.
Reception spaces (indoor/outdoor) After your ceremony, gather in the Fountain View Ballroom for your reception. The room lights up with Swarovski crystal chandeliers and tented by elegant linens, giving it the feeling of a beautiful garden party. French doors accent the room and remain open during your reception. So you guests always have quick access to the upper garden balcony. The doors can be closed to ensure your guests can dance all night long without breaking (too much!) of a sweat.
Any other spaces utilized for events like a cocktail hour. While the living room has a full bar, the garden is the pride and joy of the estate. The area is available for hosting a cocktail hour so your guests can take in the view of the roses and lilies while sipping on specialty drinks worthy of the 1920s mansion!
Bridal suite/groom’s room The estate gives you access to one room an hour before the wedding. Bring a few bottles of champagne and relax with your wedding party as you finish preparing for your day.
How many people can each Harding Allen Estate wedding space hold? The Fountain View Ballroom allows up to 275 guests making it an ideal spot for larger weddings.
Specific details about the spaces The estate is filled with details that make your venue stand out. As guests walk around, they’ll feel at home in the furnished rooms. The meticulously kept walled gardens become accessible through a beautiful wrought-iron fence.
The Harding Allen Estate offers tons of epic, dramatic and beautiful wedding photo opportunities. The large windows in the Fountain View Ballroom let sunbeams pour into the room for natural light. The Grecian columns of the pergola make a stunning backdrop for your ceremony pictures. The beautiful fountain in the garden is perhaps the best spot for photos. It makes a fabulous place for a romantic snapshot. The gardens also offer multiple opportunities to frame you and your partner in beautiful ways.
The estate has two additional cottages and allows you to rent out rooms for overnight guests, making accommodations for out-of-state visitors a breeze. The venue has an on-site florist who will provide you with bright, gorgeous bouquets. You will also have access to the estate’s delicious catering. This venue truly has it all!
A Harding Allen Estate wedding is a marvelous place for a couple looking for a dreamy venue. Give your guests an incredible experience they won’t soon forget!
